Each year, Women Health Care Executives honors a woman whose leadership and contributions to the health care field are exceptional and deserving of recognition. WHCE's Woman of the Year is selected among a distinguished group of Northern California women health care leaders and will be celebrated at our virtual Woman of the Year conference. The annual gala has brought together 200 Bay Area health care leaders and influencers from key health care organizations. Previous attendees have included: One Medical, Blue Shield of California, Dignity Health, Genentech, Genomic Health, Home Care Assistance, Kaiser Permanente, Method, Pillsbury, Stanford Health Care, Sutter Health, UCSF, Vocera, and many others.

About our 2021 Woman of the Year

Dr. Noha Aboelata

Dr. Noha Aboelata, MD, Founder and CEO, Roots Community Health Center

Noha Aboelata, MD, Founder/CEO of Roots Community Health Center has devoted her career to eliminating health disparities and improving the health of marginalized communities. Through Roots, founded in East Oakland, she has pioneered the delivery of culturally responsive “Whole Health,” and championed the integration of physical and behavioral health care, workforce enterprises, health navigation, and mobile medical services, to address the needs of over 10,000 members. She has overseen Roots’ growth from 2-person volunteer effort to a multi-campus, multi-county non-profit with over 175 staff. Dr. Aboelata serves on the Board of Governors for the Alameda Alliance for Health and is the immediate past Chair of the Alameda Health System Board of Trustees. Prior to Roots, Dr. Aboelata, an Oakland native, served in senior executive roles for Tiburcio Vasquez Health Center, the Native American Health Center in Oakland, and expanded publicly funded primary care services throughout the Bay Area. Dr. Aboelata earned her medical doctorate from Howard University School of Medicine and served as a National Health Service Corps Fellow.

About our Session Speaker:

Gilda Gonzales, CEO of Planned Parenthood Northern California 

Gilda Gonzales became CEO of Planned Parenthood Northern California (PPNorCal) on June 5, 2017. She is the first Latina to serve as CEO of a California Planned Parenthood affiliate.  Ms. Gonzales initially joined PPNorCal in February 2014 as Senior VP of External Affairs. She has a Master’s degree in Public Administration from CSU East Bay and Bachelor of Science in Industrial Psychology from St. Mary’s College of California. Ms. Gonzales’ has received several leadership acknowledgments, most notably: Alameda County Women’s Hall of Fame Inductee, SF Business Times’ Influential Women “Forever Influential” designation, and St. Mary’s College of California’s 40 Most Influential Women Graduates. She grew up in California’s Central Valley and currently lives in Oakland with her husband, Ken Wysocki, Ph.D.
